The best thing is to reach the river from Bagan and Mandalay to appreciate the beauty of Burmese landscape and appreciate the grandeur of Bagan as you begin to see before you arrive. Tourism in Burma (now its official name is Myanmar) is an industry that is taking off, but it is still one of the Southeast Asian countries with less tourist infrastructure. It is still possible to find hotels for all budgets in Bagan. Finally
most dramatically since point of view of religious architecture in Southeast Asia is Angkor, Cambodia. The lost city rediscovered by a French traveler in the nineteenth century.
