religious monuments in Southeast Asia

Southeast Asia consists of many countries and to the western traveler, before going, it is very difficult to establish what are the differences between them and worth visiting on a first visit. There are thousands of temples throughout Asia and can be dizzying to visit many of them without knowing the culture of the countries or understand that you are viewing. However, some of them for their monumental and unique features, if they can be highly recommended for anyone who wants to understand better the culture of those countries. The three main religious monuments in Southeast Asia are Borobudur on the island of Java, Angkor in Cambodia and Bagan in Burma.

Borobudur Buddhist monument is the world's largest and also the biggest religious temple in the southern hemisphere. It is located in Yogyakarta, Java Island, and near another called Prambanan Hindu temple. Borobudur is simply spectacular. You can asceder through several floors of stupas and the view from above allows us to appreciate the beauty of the interior of Java. Yogyakarta has an excellent tourist and is located less than an hour by plane from Jakarta or island Bali.

Bagan in Burma Burma is a city full of temples on the banks of the Ayeyarwady River. There are more than 2.o00 excellently preserved and some majestic as that of Ananda. The best thing is to reach the river from Bagan and Mandalay to appreciate the beauty of Burmese landscape and appreciate the grandeur of Bagan as you begin to see before you arrive. Tourism in Burma (now its official name is Myanmar) is an industry that is taking off, but it is still one of the Southeast Asian countries with less tourist infrastructure. It is still possible to find hotels for all budgets in Bagan. Finally

most dramatically since point of view of religious architecture in Southeast Asia is Angkor, Cambodia. The lost city rediscovered by a French traveler in the nineteenth century. Most of the buildings of Angkor, and there are dozens of them are from the same period of Notre Dame de Paris and bridging cultural gaps are as spectacular as that. For ejemlo, you can see hundreds of meters of bas-reliefs describing the exploits of Hindu mythology. Angkor is a large complex, a world heritage site by UNESCO, which has many distinctive buildings. Among them, Angkor Wat itself (Pagoda in Cambodia), Bayon and Ta Phrom . The overall architecture Angkor has been used by Hollywood and for example the temple of Apocalypse Now is based on Angkor Wat. To visit Angkor, one must go to the city of Siem Reap in Cambodia. In this city can be reached by plane from multiple destinations, such as Bangkok or from the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh. Also possible to travel by boat to Siem Reap from the latter city, but river conditions can be dangerous. There are excellent hotels in Siem Reap, including the legendary Grand Hotel d'Angkor .

If you only have time to visit one of these three wonderful it is best to go to Angkor, for ease of access and because perhaps the most spectacular of the three recommended sites.
